The Medical Faculty of the Westphalian Wilhelms-University of Münster offers the position of a

Translational Professor (W3) for Organ Regeneration and Organ Replacement

The successful candidate will head the laboratory unit at the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery (Chair: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Andreas Pascher) with a scientific focus on regenerative medicine and represent it in science and medical education.

We are looking for an internationally recognized scientist with an outstanding track record with respect to publications and third party funding in the field of regenerative medicine of visceral organs. Of particular interest are scientists with expertise in bioartificial organs, cell-based regenerative therapeutic strategies and organoid cultures. The applicants’ research portfolio should include state-of the art technologies as well as advanced clinical, preclinical and in-vitro models of visceral organ replacement, regeneration, and support. International scientific experience is desired.

The successful candidate is expected to restructure and strengthen the surgical research unit, establish the scientific focus of regenerative medicine and strengthen the cross-sectional field of regenerative medicine at the WWU, comprising partners in visceral medicine, organ, tissue, and cell transplantation, transfusion medicine, musculo-skeletal medicine and the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine.
We expect a high commitment to innovative teaching including the establishment of a structured educational module for translational surgical research, as well as mentoring of young researchers.

The Medical Faculty expects active collaborations with the existing collaborative research programs, especially the Cells in Motion Interfaculty Centre (CiMIC), the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine, the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research (IZKF) and the Center for Clinical Trials (ZKS).
Prerequisites for this position are scientific achievements gained within a junior professorship, habilitation or position as research scientist at a University/school of higher education or a non-University institution or in connection with an academic activity in business, industry, administration or other social area, either in Germany or abroad. Further prerequisites are stated in § 36 of legal regulations of the higher education act (Hochschulgesetz).
