Job Description

The Nuclear Science and Engineering Division is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Appointee to join the Reactor and Fuel Cycle Analysis group. The individual will: 1) Analyze multi-physics aspects of existing and advanced nuclear fission reactors including but not limited to neutronics, radiation transport, nuclear safeguards and security, and fuel cycle system performance; 2) Develop computational strategies and enhance state-of-the-art codes to improve the modeling and simulation of nuclear reactor cores and fuel cycles; 3) Design new reactor systems or improve existing reactor designs including but not limited to SFRs, MSRs, HTGRs, and micro-reactors; 4) Analyze predictions of reactor and fuel cycle performance characteristics with experimental results and/or alternative simulations; and 5) Produce papers and reports describing results of development work, analyses, and investigations.

Position Requirements:

  • Knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices for the design and analysis of reactor systems.
  • Applied knowledge in one or more specialized areas of nuclear science and engineering.
  • Knowledge in development and/or application of nuclear reactor physics or systems codes.
  • Knowledge in computer programming and scripting.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Skill in the conception, design, and evaluation of innovative approaches and solutions to quantitative problems.
  • Skills in the use of computers and in the analysis of computational results, clear and effective documentation and communication of results, and interaction with co-workers and support personnel.
  • Familiarity with writing funding proposals for innovative ideas.

This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in engineering or physics or associated field at the Ph.D. level & 0+ years of professional experience, Master’s degree & 3+ years, or Bachelor’s level & 5+ years’ of professional experience or equivalent.
