Job Description

Job Purpose

Manages and coordinates the activities of a Baylor College of Medicine laboratory to assist faculty in teaching and/or research programs.

Job Duties
  • Consults with faculty to determine equipment purchase priorities based on budget, condition of existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory activities.
  • Prepares and puts in place equipment scheduled for use.
  • May demonstrate use and care of equipment to research personnel in the laboratory.
  • May maintain research databases using scientific software.
  • Arranges service calls for equipment and orders laboratory supplies.
  • May diagnose equipment malfunctions and dismantle and repair equipment, applying knowledge of shop mechanics and using gauges, meters, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Confers with faculty periodically to evaluate new equipment and methods.
  • May serve as biosafety officer for the laboratory or department.
  • Supervises laboratory personnel in a variety of laboratory duties.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience with prior supervisory experience.
