Post-doctoral Associate

University of California, Davis

Davis, CA

Job posting number: #7065187

Posted: March 9, 2020

Application Deadline: Open Until Filled

Job Description

Post-Doctoral Fellowships are available for highly motivated PhD/MD scientists to join the Cardiac Signaling Lab, directed by Dr. Ye Chen-Izu and Dr. Leighton T. Izu, in the Departments of Pharmacology and Biomedical Engineering, University of California – Davis, USA. (https://bme.ucdavis.edu/izulab/)

The Post-Doctoral Fellows will join our interdisciplinary research group to develop and use state-of-the-art technology to investigate cardiac function and heart diseases in a highly stimulating and collaborative environment. There are constant and dynamic interactions between lab experimentalists and mathematical modelers who work closely to understand how the heart functions as a ‘smart’ pump. We focus on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of mechano-chemo-electro-transduction that enable the heart to auto-regulate cardiac output in response to physiological load changes, but also cause heart diseases under pathological load conditions (e.g. high blood pressure, pressure/volume overload, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or dilated cardiomyopathy).

The candidates should have training and expertise in one of the following research areas: a) Mathematical Modeling: PhD in applied mathematics or biophysics/bioengineering, and conversant in nonlinear dynamics, probability theory, and linear algebra. b) Experimental studies: PhD/MD with training in fluorescence microscopy, optical imaging instrumentation and techniques, and knowledge of cardiac excitation-Ca2+ signaling-contraction coupling. c) Experimental studies: PhD/MD with training in cellular electrophysiology and knowledge of cardiomyocyte excitation-contraction and heart disease mechanisms. We are committed to helping Post-Doc Fellows to develop independent research career, and provide mentoring for grants applications, lab management skills, and developing network and collaborations.

Please email the following application materials to Prof. Ye Chen-Izu, Departments of Pharmacology, Biomedical Engineering, and Internal Medicine/Cardiology, UC Davis.
Email: ychenizu@ucdavis.edu
1) Curriculum vitae (with your contact information and citizen/visa status).
2) Cover letter stating your training and skills and your scientific interests.
3) A list of 3 referees who have direct knowledge of your training and scientific work.

The Post-Doc positions are funded by NIH grants during 2020-2024 and open until filled.
