The Georgetown University Center for Global Health Practice and Impact (CGHPI) serves countries to improve their population health and wellbeing and to safeguard against health-related threats by advancing the use of evidence and human-centered enterprise architecture on the path towards achieving equity and social justice. To achieve this mission, we catalyze the uptake, spread, and implementation of innovations; triangulate data from different sources, and tailor visualization of the information for each audience; design and implement integrated service delivery models; support communities of practice to inform policy and practice through efficient data use and horizontal and vertical collaboration; disseminate best practices and evidence globally through open source learning networks; build global, collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and interprofessional networks; undertake research that is informed by local needs; and invest in local leadership to own, provide oversight, and sustain implemented interventions.
Georgetown University, through CGHPI, implements a mix of programs within the academic mission of research, education and service domestically in the US and globally in other countries. These programs seek to improve population health outcomes through sustainable interventions that aim to minimize or eliminate systemic and structural barriers that constrain populations from improving their health outcomes or governments and health organizations from improving conditions that assure healthy populations. CGHPI works through multi-disciplinary and interprofessional approaches to solve implementation and research challenges. To enhance our work, we have a new position opening for an exceptional individual to join the team and further enrich our unique offerings.
The Senior Technical Advisor – Human-Centered Design (HCD Senior Advisor) will be member of the global technical assistance team supporting to countries to enhance their efforts aimed at strengthening health systems to more effectively respond to major public health challenges including diseases that cause the most burden. The position holder will infuse human-centered design in our programming work to ensure program design, implementation and delivery effectively meet the needs within a health system from providers and client perspectives.
The HCD Senior Advisor is responsible for building capacity of field program teams to apply HCD principles and methods. The HCD Advisor will take lead on integrating CGHPI’s LISTEN Model into all aspects of the center’s work. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Collaborate with stakeholders to employ human-centered methods and activities to improve products, services, and policies
Work with technical teams, project teams, and partners (government, health care providers, patients) to guide the integration of HCD methodologies into relevant areas, e.g., service delivery models, data systems design, patient engagement, data use etc.
Assist with the preparation of training materials and conduct training as needed
Create and facilitate HCD training for program team
Lead design-related meetings and workshops
Support scale-up of LISTEN model in different countries and programs
Master's degree or higher in human-centered design, design, engineering, public health, business, behavioral studies, or another related field.
At least 10 years of demonstrated technical expertise, with substantial developing country context experience, in at least one or more of the following technical areas: application of new and relevant HCD techniques that create insights into end-user actions, thoughts and behaviors; investigative methods including: ethnographic study, contextual inquiry, concept/solution testing, usability testing and similar methods; generative methods including: card sorting, affinity diagramming and participatory design sessions; cooperative design; and contextual design.
At least 5 year’s proven experience in scaling health innovations
At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in a management position in design projects.
Previous experience managing projects of a similar magnitude and complexity.
Demonstrated ability to design and manage field-based research studies.
Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of government and civil society counterparts, donor, and global partners
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French.
Working knowledge of Portuguese
