Job Description

We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position with our Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division (CSE).

Under the guidance of a supervisor, the Postdoctoral Appointee will:

  • Design, synthesize, and characterize redox active small organic molecules.
  • Conduct electrochemical/chemical/physical characterization of these molecules towards energy storage applications.
  • Design reaction protocols and experimental procedures for development and evaluation of novel redox active molecules.
  • Perform DFT calculations to correlate or predict the electrochemical/physical properties based on chemical structures. Analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications.
  • Attend and present at scientific meetings; and prepare reports, presentations, and papers for group meetings.

We expect you to have:

  • Knowledge of and experimental expertise in organic synthesis and physical organic chemistry of small organic molecules and polymeric materials and in conducting electrochemical analysis.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to keep abreast of pertinent scientific literature.
  • Experience in DFT calculations and analytical techniques such as NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis, GC-Mass, cyclic voltammetry, would be an asset.
  • This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in organic chemistry or physical organic chemistry at the Ph.D. degree level with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience.
