Responsibilities and Duties:
Provides services (such as inspection, investigation, assessment, corrective consultations, and employee training), in support of required safety programs, such as: Fire Prevention, Electrical Safety, Hazardous Materials and Hazardous Waste Disposal, Laboratory Safety, Hearing Conservation, Fall Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, Automated External Defibrillators and Emergency Response.
Coordinates services with outside contractors for the following: Hazardous Waste Disposal, Regulated Medical Waste (Infectious) Disposal, Used Oil and Universal Waste Recycling, Elevator Inspections and various other required safety inspections
Maintenance of fire and security equipment and systems
Assists departmental supervisor in investigation of accidents
Works with departments to reduce hazards and risks
Stays abreast of regulatory issues and acts as a safety resource
Performs other related work duties as assigned
Must be on the current Monroe County Civil Service eligible list for this title OR must meet the following minimum qualifications and be eligible to take the next Monroe County Civil Service exam for this title when scheduled and be reachable. Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus, EITHER: A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Health Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental, Health and Safety Management, or closely related field, plus one year of paid full time or its part time equivalent professional* experience in environmental or occupational health and safety training and inspections ; OR, B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in one of the fields mentioned in A) above, plus three years' experience as defined in A) above, plus three years of paid full-time or it's part-time equivalent experience as defined in A) above OR C) Any equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of A) and B) above.
*Professional experience for the purposes of these minimum qualifications does not include maintenance, clerical, secretarial, reception or similar duties.
Must be a Monroe County Resident.
Successful candidate must pass a background check as required by Public Safety.
Experience/ knowledgeable in fire and security equipment and systems
Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint and capable of learning new software systems with minimal training;
Possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships;
Proven to be self-driven with ability to work independently;
Proven multi-tasking skills with ability to adjust priorities to maintain compliance timeframes.
