Job Description

Postdoctoral Researcher

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry
Columbus, OH

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry invites applications for Postdoctoral Researcher to collaboratively work with the Division of Biosciences for a maximum 4-year term duration. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our laboratory.

Our lab focuses on the role of proteinases in cell-cell adhesion and dental enamel development. Experience in molecular biology, cell culture and mouse experimentation is preferred. You will be responsible for independent projects and will publish in peer-reviewed journals. You will also have the opportunity to travel to science meetings to present your research results.

The Postdoctoral Researcher conducts research for interdisciplinary subjects involving how matrix metalloproteinases contribute to tooth and dental enamel development. This position will work with transgenic mice that have matrix metalloproteinase-20 (MMP20, Enamelysin) deleted from their genome and with mice that overexpress MMP20. Both of these mice have severe enamel defects and we are focused on determining how MMP20 functions to help form healthy enamel. Duties include tissue harvesting, performing immunoblots, real-time PCR, immunofluorescence assays, in situ hybridization, cell culture, cell viability assays, and microscopy. Additionally, there are opportunities to attend national and international scientific meetings.

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs.

The work schedule is flexible in terms of the daily beginning and ending time. It is expected that at least 40 hours per week will be accomplished.

This position requires successful completion of background check(s) and drug & alcohol screening.

Research will be performed in the Bartlett Laboratory under the direction of John D. Bartlett, MS, PhD, Professor of Biosciences and Associate Dean for Research (bartlett.196@osu.edu). Electronic applications only will be accepted. Evaluation of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
