Job Description

The Scafidi Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our team and conduct research at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. Our research is focused on investigating adaptive and maladaptive metabolic processes in the brain following injury. This current NIH-funded 5-year project will examine perturbations in astrocytic metabolism after traumatic brain injury. This research will help the post-doctoral fellow to develop unique expertise in metabolism, molecular biology, and learning and behavior. The post-doctoral fellow will have an opportunity to learn and use imaging and advanced microscopy, mouse genetics and breeding, processing and analysis of metabolomics data, and lipid and glucose biochemistry. There is a heavy reliance on small animal models of brain trauma and behavioral assessment.
The Scafidi Lab is part of the Basic and Translational Research Division, allowing close interactions with other laboratories. In addition, we collaborate extensively with Dr. Michael Wolfgang – a senior faculty in the Department of Biological Chemistry and the Center for Metabolism and Obesity Research, which will allow the post-doc to attain additional mentorship and guidance for their research and career.
The position is available immediately. The candidate should have a recent MD or PhD in a biomedical field (neuroscience is preferred), be a strong team player, demonstrate independence, and have an interest in working with graduate and undergraduate students. The candidate should also have strong communication skills (oral and written). Salary compensation is according to NIH-set stipends, commensurate with experience and benefits.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and CV to Susanna Scafidi at Please, include in the subject line your last name, first name, and your interest in Post-doctoral Application.
