Job Description

Two Post doctoral scientist positions are available to join an existing collaborative study team between the Department of Otorhinolaryngology Perelman School of Medicine and the Department of Pathobiology in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to conduct independent research in the fields of allergic inflammation, mucosal immunology and host-pathogen interactions, with an emphasis on the role of intestinal tuft cells and solitary chemosensory cells. Projects will focus on the basic cellular and molecular mechanisms operating in Type 2 inflammatory responses caused by exposure to allergens and/or helminths in the upper and lower airway using either murine models or human tissue explants. The incumbent will be expected to conduct pulmonary function testing on mice using the Flexivent device. The incumbent will report on laboratory activities and accomplishments via research reports, presentations and writing manuscripts for publication in top-tier peer reviewed journals. They will oversee and guide the research of undergraduate and graduate students as well as medical students and surgical residents working in the lab and will collaborate on other research projects with local, national and international collaborators. The successful candidate must have a PhD, MD and/or DVM degree with a high degree of training and experience in immunological approaches including flow cytometry, tissue culture (primary human, mouse and cell lines), molecular biology and cloning, RNA sequencing and analysis. Experience and expertise in working with mice is required. Excellent written and oral communication, as well as interpersonal and organizational skills are also required.
