Funded by an NIH/NCI R01 grant (2017-2022), the Yang lab at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center ( is developing powerful proteomics methods to identify novel circulating cancer biomarkers from extracellular vesicles isolated from peripheral blood. The Postdoctoral Scientist will work independently but in close co-operation and in consultation with the PI throughout the training period. The postdoc will develop and implement new research techniques and protocols in proteomic analysis of biofluid and tissue specimens, especially in analyzing post-translational modifications like S-palmitoylation. The postdoc will analyze and interpret data and participate in manuscript writing and conference presentation. The postdoc may apply for fellowships and assist PI’s preparation of grant proposals.

The ideal candidate will work closely with mass spec specialists, cancer researchers, computational biologists, cell biologists, pathologists, and clinicians. Equipped with very high end mass spectrometer Fusion Lumos (Thermo Scientific), the Yang lab focuses on applying leading-edge proteomics technologies to discover novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets for aggressive prostate cancer. However, abundant opportunities exist for collaboration with other scientists focused on other disease sites. This is an outstanding opportunity to develop and apply cutting-edge proteomics technologies to address important clinical questions at one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, located in Los Angeles, is a teaching hospital affiliated to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and is one of the largest academic medical centers in the United States.

A PhD degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related fields is required. Strong experience in protein chemistry, mass spectrometry, biostatistics, molecular biology, or cancer biology and excellent communication skills are highly preferable.

Salary will match NIH's stipend levels.
