Position Description
The mission of the GMH@Harvard Initiative is to foster a collaborative and cross-disciplinary academic community dedicated to transforming the mental health of the world’s population through education, research, innovation, and engagement. EMPOWER is a not-for-profit effort of Harvard Medical School’s GlobalMentalHealth@Harvard Initiative and is situated in the Mental Health for All Lab Research Program in the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine. EMPOWER is working to identify new practices for the mobilization of new coalitions and partnerships to address the lack of skilled human resources to deliver mental health care globally.


The Research Assistant will be responsible for research and administrative activities that contribute to the creation of the digital curricula and scientific manuscripts for an EMPOWER initiative that aims to digitally train non-specialist providers in transdiagnostic intervention for mood disorders in adolescents. The individual will serve as a key member of the Harvard Medical School EMPOWER team and work closely with the EMPOWER Program Manager, Coordinator, and with collaborators at external institutions and organizations. The responsibilities of this position are broad, spanning multiple time zones and working with multiple organizations.


Research and Program Responsibilities
  • Coordinate communication within the study team, the Scientific Advisory Board, and other individuals and groups involved in EMPOWER activities.
  • Liaise with expert reviewers, graphic designers, and video production vendors to support development of instructional content
  • Conduct interviews and focus group discussions with key stakeholders and community partners
  • Support the integration of Empower curriculum into a learning management system (LMS)
  • Incorporate revisions of course scripts, knowledge check questions, overall instructional content in response to feedback from focus groups consisting of experts, health workers and community members
  • Support the submission of study protocols and study tools to the IRB for review, and submit regular progress reports to the IRB
  • Support the analysis, interpretation, and presentation of project findings
  • Develop reports and presentations for dissemination of project findings, as well as support the preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication in academic journals
  • Assist in preparation of progress reports for submission to the project funders Administrative and Scheduling Responsibilities
  • Support senior staff and faculty members by preparing pre-meeting briefings, PowerPoint presentations, and keeping minutes during meetings
  • Schedule meetings and set up web conferencing
  • Develop written content and announcements summarizing project activities and accomplishments for routine updates to the EMPOWER website
  • Protect the confidentiality of project communications and materials with a high degree of professionalism and discretion.
Basic Qualifications
Two years' relevant experience. Higher education may count towards experience.
 
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in psychology or a related field. Master's degree in public health, psychology, or related field preferred.
  • Two years of experience conducting research or assisting in research project administration.
  • Prior experience working with multiple stakeholder groups including community organizations or health care providers.
  • Prior experience working with adolescents, ideally those experiencing depression and anxiety.
  • Prior experience working in school settings, ideally as a counselor, or working with school counselors.
  • Prior experience working with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy protocols and manuals for treatment of adolescent depression and anxiety.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and presentation skills required.
  • The ideal candidate must be well organized, able to prioritize, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Competency using a variety of applications such as Adobe Pro, Microsoft Office, Outlook Calendar and the confidence to adapt/learn if not familiar with an application.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt and remain flexible in a changing environment.
Additional Information
This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position. 

This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.
