Job Description

Summary

We are looking for an individual to join our in vivo functional genomics program studying pediatric brain tumors. Responsibilities will include genotyping of mice, assisting in the generation of novel transgenic models, RNA/DNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, quantitative real time PCR, Western blotting, and training/teaching graduate students. Experience with flow cytometry and molecular biology will also be required.

 

The successful applicant will be responsible for the organization and day-to-day operations of projects and the laboratory, and will support world-class clinical and translational research in the Taylor Lab at Baylor College of Medicine. The successful applicant will also be responsible for applying technical knowledge and skills to perform laboratory procedures and experiments.  Assignments will be broadly outlined and frequently require theoretical insight, and the ability to find and extract pertinent information from technical literature.

Job Duties

  • Strategic responsibility for interpreting scope of projects, implementing quality control, compiling standard operating procedures (SOPs) and preparing reports.
  • Play a role in developing and implementing new technologies crucial to our functional genomics program, in order for the lab to maintain its scientific and technological edge.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic goals and be responsible for ongoing projects; must be able to carry out responsibilities with a high degree of independence.
  • Provide training to new students and staff.
  • Provide leadership within the team on technical matters related to your associated research projects.
  • Receive, process, archive and retrieve biological samples.
  • Develop and maintain databases.
  • Handle and process DNA, RNA, protein, and cells.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree or BSc with mouse/animal working experience.
  • Experience with mouse models preferred
