Position Summary:

The Biller Resource Center Resource Coordinator provides direct services to patients and families and to the healthcare staff. The Resource Coordinator researches a broad range of local and national referral resources for patients and their families, including assistance with transportation, rent and utilities, insurance, legal concerns, medication assistance, housing for out-of-town patients, food delivery for home bound patients, and so on. Maintains up-to-date database of all resources, ensuring active-status of agencies and programs, and details of assistance range and criteria. Builds and maintains relationships with assistance and resource agencies and foundations to ensure timely and optimized service and assistance for COH patients and families. Meets with patients and families one-on-one to assist them in their individualized resource needs, whether internal services and resources offered by City of Hope, or external referrals to local and national organizations. Also organizes and offers group presentations related to "Getting to Know your Resources" and more specific educational workshops teaching patients to access the assistance they need. The Resource Coordinator also maintains the educational and resource library in the Biller Resource Center, ensuring that we are offering the most reliable and current information, and creates and maintains resource lists (diagnostic-specific and/or need-specific) on the Biller Resource Center patient computers with links to credible web sites. Assists Director of Operations and Operations Coordinator in bringing educational and community resources to City of Hope to present to or meet individually with patients (i.e. Cancer Legal Resource Center) as well as credible resources for partnerships in offering our patients services such as acupuncture, massage therapy, and complementary medicine.

The Department of Supportive Care Medicine and the Sheri & Les Biller Patient and Family Resource Center utilize a staff leadership model and every employee is expected to take a leadership role in the department, including active involvement on a Biller Resource Center Work Group. You will also be expected to actively participate in marketing, educational and group programs, program development and fundraising efforts, and outreach to patients, families, other City of Hope departments and the community.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provides direct services to patients, families, the community, and the healthcare staff
  • Researched and maintains current detailed data base of broad range of referral resources for patients and families
  • Meets with patients and families one-on-one to resource-related provide information and consultation.
  • Offers group seminars open to all patients, family members, and the community -general and specific -around available resources, assistance services, and qualification processes.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with local and national organizations and agencies to ensure maximum assistance and best service to COH patients and families.
  • Oversees the educational and resource materials and educational and resource computer links within the Biller Resource Center.
  • Assists Operations Coordinator in the development of a robust and diverse calendar of supportive and educational activities and presentations by bringing community resource organizations to present or facilitate programs.
  • Creates the paper calendar and develops and maintains a web-based, interactive, monthly Biller Patient and Family Resource Center Calendar.
  • Represents the Biller Patient and Family Resource Center throughout the cancer center and in the community.
  • Participates in development, fundraising and marketing.
  • Provides service in a manner consistent with a specific role and function according to COH policy and procedure.
  • Maintains current knowledge and awareness of organizational and regulatory standards, policies and procedures.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor's Degree 2+ years of experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.
  • Experience working with patients and with community organizations and resources.
  • Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintainingconfidentiality

Required Courses/Training:

  • Prior experience consistent with duties.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $31.00 - $39.17 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
