Position Summary

The Occupational Therapy Residency is a one-year program for an individual who is responsible for developing and implementing a quality improvement (QI)or research study. This study will be submitted for conference presentation at the state and national level upon completion of residency. This individual actively assists in performance improvement initiatives, either through direct involvement or membership in QI team efforts. This individual will be responsible for developing and presenting weekly staff education based on the identified project or study. The individual will have direct and consistent mentorship for the duration of the residency to support successful completion of the project in addition to clinical support. The individual will be responsible for patient care under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist and will require a co signature on all documentation until licensed.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Assists in the development, implementation and assessment of new programs, clinical research and special community projects needs/opportunities arise
  • Manages a full case load of patients under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of staff. Fosters the development of teamwork within the department while meeting the needs of departments being served.
  • Ensures self-competence and promotes adherence to professional practice standards through education, training, coaching and monitoring.
  • Demonstrates understanding of all professional and regulatory standards.
  • Participates in education programs and in-services
  • Interacts effectively both inter and intra departmentally on a regular basis for planning and coordination.
  • Maintains current knowledge, skills and competencies through involvement in professional continuing education activities.
  • Uses resources efficiently.
  • Fosters involvement in performance improvement activities to promote continuous improvement in care delivery.
  • Demonstrates assimilation of core organizational values within own performance
  • Ensures self-competence and promotes adherence to professional practice standards through completion of all didactic assignments and mentorship.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Minimum Education: Residents must be enrolled as an Occupational Therapist Student in a doctoral program at the start of the residency program
  • Minimum Experience: Entry level position, no experience required. Prefer acute care internship experience.

Required Certification/Licensure:

  • CPR Certification – American Heart Association
  • Will obtain Occupational Therapist License within 5 months of employment
