Job Description
Summary
The Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children's Cancer and Hematology Clinic in McAllen, TX is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant II with experience in scheduling referrals, verifying insurance benefits, and obtaining insurance pre-certification/prior authorizations. The candidate will assist in clinic as well performing vitals and pediatric venipuncture.
Job Duties
- Obtains, enters and verifies patient demographic, financial and insurance information in registration system.
- Processes incoming patient referrals and schedules and coordinates referrals to off-site facilities.
- Completes and manages requests for pre-certification and prior authorization for varying medical services.
- Manages patient appointments, schedules visits and documents updates in electronic medical record.
- Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs and drawing blood.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: preparing/sending/receiving/filing patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information; completing forms/requisitions.
- Responds to and assists physicians with patient questions.
- Answers telephone and assists callers with routine information; routes calls to the appropriate individual.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Pediatrics.
- Pre-Certification and Prior Authorization experience.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) Preferred.
