Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Director and Coordinators, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, the Exercise Physiologist is responsible for conducting appropriate tests and evaluations; developing, instructing and monitoring appropriate exercise/strength regimens; and educating on lifestyle changes/risk-factor modification for cardiopulmonary rehabilitation patients. Position includes serving as a resource for hospital staff and community.
- Utilizes assessment skills to provide patient care in all phases of cardiopulmonary rehab, under the supervision of appointed registered nurse or coordinator.
- Teaches patient/family education relating to cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
- Documents problems and patient's progress to physicians in an accurate and timely manner.
- Develops rehabilitative goals including risk factor reduction and exercise prescriptions.
- Serves as a consultant for the department, hospital and community in relation to exercise principles, fitness equipment, and wellness in general.
- Assists with development and implementation of new policies, procedures, programs, and projects.
- Collaborates with appointed registered nurse as preceptor for new staff members and university students in relation to exercise physiology.
- Attends continuing education programs to remain updated on advances in technology and patient care techniques.
- Assists in developing and evaluating improvement performance standards.
- Remains flexible in working between all phases of rehabilitation and as indicated in the Heart Center.
- Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure.
- Other duties as assigned
Education:
- Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree preferred in exercise physiology.
Certifications:
- Prefer certification as Exercise Leader and/or Exercise Specialist. Maintains current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Prefer ACSM certification.
Complexity of Work:
- Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
Work Experience:
- Two years experience in cardiac and/or pulmonary rehabilitation preferred.
