What You Will Achieve

The Viral Vaccines group is looking for a highly experienced molecular biologist with automation experience to support different RNA-based viral vaccine programs. In this position, you will play an important role in the design, cloning and validation of different vaccine construct candidates while working in a very dynamic and collaborative environment. In this role, you will also actively support the technology transfer and integration of a new laboratory with automation/ high-throughput capabilities for screening and candidate selection purposes across VRD.

The selected candidate should have a strong work ethic and collaborative personality and will interact with manager and other group members on a regular basis as well as functional lines within Vaccines R&D (VRD).

How You Will Achieve It

  • Advanced work in protocol design, scripting, testing, optimization and troubleshooting of complex liquid handler workstations for High Throughput and screening purposes.
  • Perform molecular biology techniques including but not limited to PCR, RT-PCR, cloning (ligation/Gibson Assembly/Golden Gate assembly), sequencing analysis, in vitro transcription (IVT) and analytics, transfection of different cell lines/primary cells…etc and using FACS or cell imaging as a readout.
  • Collect and analyze data on a per project basis to support troubleshooting, qualification, and other lab projects.
  • Ability to work independently to analyze, interpret and summarize experimental data. Present progress on platform development and sample analysis to colleagues and senior management.
  • Maintain a detailed inventory of freezer reagents and samples organized and up to date.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks in compliance with the Pfizer Laboratory Notebook Policy

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Degree in Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related scientific field. MS with 6+ years or PhD with 1-3 years of postdoctoral experience in industrial or academic setting is required.
  • Proficient in sample preparation in various assays using Hamilton liquod handler workstations and validation of robotic methods.
  • Proficient programming skills to code automation instrumentation, specifically liquid handlers (C++/ Phyton/VBA/R..etc).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to collaborate and work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and excellent communication skills.
  • Expert in Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas and functions).

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with DNA/RNA structure/folding.
  • Experience with Gene Data, Benching or similar biopharma platforms would be preferred.

  

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is primarily performed at the laboratory bench and at an office desk using a computer. The job involves lifting relatively light loads, not more than 10 pounds. This position may require the ability to stand and reach inside the hardware environment of various laboratory robotic equipment.
