Summary

The Section of Immunology, Allergy & Rheumatology is seeking a  Medical Assistant who is proficient in delivering patient care in an ambulatory care setting. The ideal candidate will have general knowledge of medical assisting work.  This position will be assisting in the overall day to day operations of the Clinical Practice at the BSLMC-McNair Campus. 

Job Duties

  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in the electronic medical record.
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient’s visit.
  • Assists with the check-in and initial vital signs of patients for eight rheumatology and allergy providers. 
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Takes inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies.
  • Assists with maintaining stock of clinical supplies and inventories supplies needed for use of rheumatology and allergy testing. Both Rheumatology and Allergy teams have a total of 12 exam rooms. 
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
  • Assists the rheumatology and allergy RN with scheduling flu shot patients and Cimzia shot patients. Within the allergy clinic, medical assistant will assist with immunotherapy shot patients along with guidance from the allergy RN.
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as assisting with prior authorizations. 
  • Assists in supporting other college initiatives such as a rotating schedule to handle calls under the LIVE answer initiative. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA). New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Prior rheumatology background.
  • Experience with BCM's MRN system: EPIC.
  • Prior experience with processing and completing prior authorization tasks for medications. 
  •  Outpatient practice support preferred.
