Job Description
Summary
The Alkek Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research (CMMR) at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking Research Technician with a molecular biology background to work in a production environment processing samples for metagenomics and microbiome research. This position is in a CAP/CLIA accredited laboratory and will support projects containing a diverse array of sample types from collaborators around the world. The technician will be trained in the latest next generation sequencing techniques and use of multiple Illumina sequencing platforms.
Job Duties
- Samples intake that includes data entry and manifest reconciliation..
- Performs routine technical laboratory procedures.
- Conducts routine laboratory experiments.
- Uses multiple Illumina sequencing platforms to perform DNA/RNA sequencing.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and common spaces.
- Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports.
- Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Works on compliance with CAP/CLIA regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree molecular biology is desirable.
- Experience with basic molecular biology techniques.
- One year of related experience.
- Has knowledge on use of pipettor.
- Able to calculate molar concentrations, PCR/qPCR, DNA quantification/qualification, SOP management.
