Job Description

The School of Visual Arts at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning in August 2023. The Visual Communication (graphic design) program seeks candidates who share our mission to provide design education within a student-centric learning environment that emphasizes excellence in teaching, research and service to the community.

The Visual Communication program emphasizes a conceptual yet practical approach to design problem solving. The responsibilities of the position include working with area faculty to develop and maintain curriculum that is committed to creative and innovative approaches to graphic design education. Faculty will teach undergraduate and graduate design courses with a focus on new and emerging technologies as related to visual communication. The candidate should demonstrate a rigorous research and/or creative activity agenda that explores opportunities for applied and/or theoretical research in graphic design. The individual should maintain a research/creative agenda that attracts and mentors students at all levels. Service responsibilities are expected at the program, school, college, university and professional levels. Salary commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold a terminal degree in Visual Communication/Graphic Design or equivalent design degree (MFA, MSD Masters in Design, MVCD Masters Visual Communication Design, PhD in Design)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • University-level teaching experience
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in graphic design
