Job Description

The Haskell & Irene Lemon Construction Science (CNS) Division at the University of Oklahoma’s (OU) Gibbs College of Architecture (GCA) invites applications for an assistant/associate/full professor 9-month position that may be tenure-track or tenured, beginning in August 2023. The successful applicant will join a tight-knit group of faculty who share the mission to prepare students to be leaders in the construction industry by fostering a student-centered, collaborative learning environment that benefits local, state, national and international communities through innovative teaching, research, and service in support of GCA’s strategic plan.

The Division’s significant endowment supports strong leadership, a cadre of passionate and impactful faculty, and a pattern of student success in regional, national, and international competitions. The GCA’s history in helping develop the design+build movement continues today through the program’s balanced approach towards entrepreneurship and hands-on collaborations. The CNS Division continually strives to develop and strengthen industry relationships in a stable metropolitan construction market. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the future direction of the Division. The position offers the following notable opportunities:

Required qualifications:

• Ph.D. in construction or a related field. Applicants with ABD status will be considered if the requirement for Ph.D. can be completed during the first year of employment 
• A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in the design and construction industry
• Demonstrated expertise related to the CNS curriculum and be able to teach courses in more than one construction topic
• Potential to develop an externally funded research agenda
• Ability to support a collegial and collaborative working environment in addition to possessing effective communication and inter-personal skills
• A commitment to providing students with a personal and high-quality educational experience

Preferred qualifications:

• Prior teaching experience in construction higher education
• Prior success receiving external funding for research projects
• Strong preference for the ability to teach at least three (3) existing courses in the CNS curriculum, including but not limited to construction safety, surveying, construction document reading and quantity surveying, computer applications in construction, and construction materials and methods
• Professional experience the US construction industry
• A collaborative research agenda in support of Division and GCA goals
• Certifications and/or licenses (for example CPC, PMP, PE, DBIA, LEED AP)
