Job Description
The Professional Counseling M.Ed. Program, in the Department of Educational Psychology, Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education, at the University of Oklahoma seeks two Assistant professors with a demonstrated record of strength in teaching, supervision, and research, along with a primary professional identity as a counselor educator. Successful candidates will serve a nine-month, tenure-track, appointment beginning Fall 2023. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and background. Summer employment is contingent on student demand and funding.
The Program: The Professional Counseling Program at OU offers professional preparation at the master’s degree level for qualified persons wishing to become, clinical professional counselors, school counselors, and/or drug and alcohol counselors. The program offers (1) a 60-hour Clinical Professional Counseling track that meets the state of Oklahoma LPC requirements, (2) a 45-hour Drug and Alcohol counseling track, and (3) a 45-hour School Counseling track. The Drug and Alcohol Counseling concentration includes five specialized courses that have been approved by the Oklahoma Board of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
Our primary training goals are to facilitate student integration of counseling theory, research, and practice; and to foster the development and application of holistic counseling skills. A foundational value of the program is to foster understanding, critical thinking and ethical decision-making.
Tenure-Track Assistant Professor (2 positions) – Professional Counseling
- Required:
- Earned doctorate in Counseling or Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program
- Eligible for appropriate counselor certification and licensure in the State of Oklahoma
- Evidence of scholarly contributions to the field through research and presentations at national conferences
- Ability to teach courses in the CACREP core
- Preferred:
- A record of effective teaching, supervision, and professional activity
- Ability to contribute to one or more specialty areas such as school or addictions counseling
- Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching and student advising through the use of traditional and web-based education technologies and/or experience or interest in teaching online courses
- Ability and commitment to mentor and supervise graduate students
- Minimum of 2 years teaching experience in the area of school counseling or addictions counseling
