Job Description

Summary

A Research Technician II is open in the Molecular Virology and Microbiology Department, specifically the Vaccine and treatment evaluation unit (VTEU) that handles Vaccine trials for both government and private industries. Technician will be responsible for several different phases of these trials including transferring samples from human subjects from the clinic to the lab, organizing samples for proper processing using several different protocols from several different studies. The technician will also be responsible for learning the different lab protocols that are used based on the study in addition to general lab maintenance and organization. Training will be available to technician. 

Job Duties

  • Performs general lab maintenance that includes checking and recording temperatures daily for all the VTEU freezers and refrigerators.
  • Processes successful samples from each study according to the study protocols that involves simple sample aliquots up to peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) processing and sample aliquots.
  • Completes all human research training required for the study.  Global Trace platform is used for sample tracking for VTEU studies and all other sample trackers the sponsor of a study would like for the lab to use.
  • Enters into the sample tracker system the information from each aliquot that was obtained from the sample.
  • Checks quality work each day, resolving issues as needed. 
  • Organizes and orders in the laboratory.
  • Works on laboratory inventory when necessary.
  • Works on laboratory shipping samples offsite that is usually done weekly.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.
