Job Description
Summary
The Research Assistant I will perform laboratory work including but not limited to bacterial culture, nucleic acid extraction, PCR, and next-generation sequencing. This individual will also be responsible for sample intake and data curation. The Research Assistant I will attend group meeting, provide updates to the team, and participate in data review and analysis. This is a part-time position with the hours of Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
This individual will be responsible for high throughput time-sensitive next-generation sequencing workflows. These workflows may include clinical development assays as well as clinical diagnostics.
Job Duties
- Plans and performs next-generation sequencing activities for the Texas Children's Microbiome Center.
- Collects, compiles and analyzes data for microbiome, metagenomic, and molecular epidemiologic projects.
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes information for grants and manuscripts.
- Performs research and development of new lab procedures and trouble shoots potential issues.
- Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a biological science.
- At least 2 years laboratory experience.
- Experience in nucleic acid extraction, PCR, and sample tracking.
