Job Description

Summary

A Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Hui Zheng in the Huffington Center on Aging at Baylor College of Medicine. The successful applicant will join a highly dynamic research group with excellent track-record and rich resources in Alzheimer’s disease research. The individual will carry out projects on lysosomal regulation in Alzheimer’s disease mouse models using molecular, biochemical and immunohistochemical techniques. 

Job Purpose

Performs responsible research work that requires planning, completing, and occasionally supervising limited research projects in accordance with general plans approved by the supervisor.

Job Duties

•    Culture and maintain mammalian cells and perform transfection to the cultures
•    Generate primary neuronal and glial cultures from neonatal mouse brains
•    Perform quantitative PCR and western blotting of cultured cells and mouse brain tissues
•    Perform immunostaining analysis of cell cultures and mouse brain sections to examine lysosome structures
•    Perform behavioral analysis of AD mouse models

The candidate should have a B.S. or M.S. degree in molecular and cellular biology or neuroscience. Previous research experience in related areas and/or animal handling is particularly desirable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
