Summary

The Senior Research Coordinator (SRC) is responsible for the coordination and administration of clinical trials, with a heavy emphasis on SWOG clinical trials coordination. The incumbent coordinates day to day activities of research protocols which include screening, enrollment, and monitoring of research participants. They ensure accurate data collection, documentation, organization and safety of research participants. Cross-trains, schedules and directs the activities of less experienced research personnel.

Job Duties

  • Interviews, screens and recruits patients for study; explains process and procedures to educate participant regarding the research study.
  • Collects patient information; processes documents and enters information into a database. May perform Venipuncture (blood draws), EKGs/ECG’s and obtain vital signs on study participants.
  • May collect, process, ship, and maintain paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens according to procedures outlined in study protocol.
  • Employees may be required to receive on the job training of phlebotomy and EKGs/ECGs prior to performing on study participants.
  • Maintains records and regulatory documents and records for research studies.
  • Schedules research participant for tests and procedures such as laboratory tests, x-rays, and other studies specific for the research protocol.
  • Retrieves and submits test results to appropriate party.
  • May correspond with patient throughout study.
  • Orders supplies and equipment.
  • Serves as back-up to other Urology Study Coordinators.
  • Triage questions received via department phone line and email address.  
  • Interfaces with the Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center research staff.
  • Performs all duties necessary to set up conference calls.
  • This may involve polling for availability, understanding the purpose of and required attendees for standard development or other recurring calls, following up with invitees, and maintaining distribution lists for recurring calls.
  • Maintains SWOG studies in the national database clinicaltrials.gov
  • Creates and evaluates datasets from SWOG trials to be posted to NCI archives or provided to external researchers.
  • Reviews and updates Trial Summary Reports (TSRs) to be uploaded to clinicaltrials.gov received from the Clinical Trials.
  • Reporting Office for protocol revisions and perform other clinicaltrials.gov maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Prepares the SWOG semi-monthly update distributions (“mail-out”) and distribute items to the appropriate protocol stakeholders (“cc lists”).
  • Maintains the departmental master list of pharmaceutical and other collaborator/stakeholder contacts.
  • Reviews CTSU website to ensure all SWOG documents are posted correctly.
  • Reviews bi-monthly CTSU broadcasts and notify relevant Protocol Coordinator(s) of changes affecting committees’ studies.
  • Composes necessary memorandum for protocols and revisions.
  • Prepares minor protocol revisions as assigned.
  • Incorporates review comments into protocols and other documents.
  • Completes IRB applications, including tracking deadlines, gathering information, and completing and submitting forms for initial, revision, and continuing reviews.
  • Collects, creates and/or edits Microsoft PowerPoint slides for various meetings, as assigned.
  • Tracks responses to requests for site acknowledgment of revisions and follow up with non- responders as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SWOG certification preferred, but not required.
  • Candidates with SWOG experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision and also as part of a team.
  • Ability to speak a second language is an asset, but not required.
  • Understanding of medical terminology as well as standard clinical procedures and protocols.
  • Prior experience training and mentoring staff members is preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds for a short period and capable of standing for extended periods of time.
