POSITION FUNCTION & SCOPE
Under the general direction of the Dean of Liberal Arts, the Computer Science Instructor position includes 15 credit-hours of teaching per semester in varying computer courses. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have training and experience implementing student-centered instructional strategies and online instruction. Other responsibilities include course development and assessment, professional development, and interdisciplinary collaborations. The incumbent does not have supervisory responsibility
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach a full-time course load in computer science
Prepare course work and develop the syllabus for each course assigned in accordance with established SUNY Schenectady approved curriculum and course outlines
Ability to teach courses in the following languages (e.g., C#, C++, Java, Java Script, HTML, SQL)
Teach the depth and scope of course content using engaging classroom methods
Ability to support courses within the scope of the College's computer science and computer science related degree and certificate programs
Hold regularly scheduled office hours to provide student support
Participate in the assessment, revision, and development of curricula and instructional methods
Participate in college governance, committee, and division level efforts including, but not limited to, retention, recruitment, and program review activities
Attend convocation, commencement, and Academic Senate, Division, and other College meetings per the UPF contract and/or as assigned
Model lifelong learning, a focus on consistent improvement and practices in support of student success, and actively engage in independent and college offered professional development to increase both knowledge in one's subject area and teaching methods
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean
Education & Experience
Master's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems & Technology or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
At least one year of experience in teaching, preferably at the community college level
Familiarity with a breadth and depth of technologies, as applied to specific classes
Experience teaching cyber security classes a plus
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to create inclusive and engaging learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body
Professional experience in Computer Science & Computer Information Systems or related field is highly desirable.
Networking and Cyber Security experience highly preferred
Experience in utilizing or developing innovative math learning strategies
Experience with online instruction
