The Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University was established in 1979 to conduct basic and applied research in robotics technologies relevant to industrial and societal tasks. Seeking to combine the practical and the theoretical, we have diversified efforts and approaches to robotics science while retaining the original goal of realizing the potential of the robotics field.
We are seeking an Extern to join Professor Howie Choset's research group. In this role, you will be using extensive research methodologies, aperform detailed research in the field of snake robot locomotion. The main focus of the research work will be exploring biologically inspired cyclic motion pattern for the snake robot, studying the interaction between the snake robot and the surrounding environment during locomotion, and developing control methods that allow the snake robot to autonomously interact with and perform substantial work in complex environments.
Core responsibilities include:
Aligning methodologies with research goals, using tools to acquire information and interpret data
Writing up reports and presenting findings, as well as conducting fieldwork and robot tests
Attending meetings and demos
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field required. Master’s degree preferred
Deep practical and theoretical understanding of Motion planning algorithms like A*, MHA*, ARA*, etc
Proficiency in C++, Python
Good understanding of Algorithms and Data Structures
Proven strong analytical and communications skills required
