The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and its School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE) seeks applicants for a 50% time (0.5 FTE) lecturer in the field of environmental engineering. The school has established a new Bachelor’s degree program in Environmental Engineering and is working to establish a new Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering. The candidate is expected to contribute substantially to fulfilling teaching responsibilities in these and related programs.
Appointment will be at the Lecturer rank beginning as early as January 2020.
As part of fulfilling instructional duties in the school, the lecturer will have the opportunity and is expected to be involved in:
Teaching environmental engineering and closely related classes at the undergraduate/graduate levels in-class and online
Developing new courses and curricula, and improving existing courses
Working with student organizations and competition teams
The position is expected to cover foundational learning at the lower-division (Freshman and Sophomore) and specialized learning at the upper-division (Junior and Senior) of the program. Depending on qualifications, the candidate may also be expected to teach graduate courses, particularly in the Environmental Engineering area.
PhD in environmental engineering, civil engineering or a closely related area
Demonstrated evidence of commitment to teaching excellence
Prior experience in teaching classes at a large institution of higher education
Transdisciplinary educational background that enables candidate to connect environmental engineering topics with concepts in agricultural and biological engineering
Ability to teach statics and dynamics, fluid mechanics, introduction to environmental engineering, freshman engineering students, and specialized environmental engineering topics
Evidence of teaching innovations that incorporate pedagogies of engagement, effective use of technology in the learning environment, and assessment techniques that include formative feedback
Registered professional engineer with significant industry experience
