Employment Type: Full Time, 3 years Start Date: Summer 2019

The Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, is recruiting a postdoctoral research fellow to carry out epidemiologic research involving epidemiologic analysis of environmental exposures, molecular biomarkers, and children’s health outcomes.

Description of Research:

• Our research projects use advanced epidemiologic and computational methods to analyze complex toxicant exposure data and other markers of chemical and non-chemical stressors in relation to early life cardiorenal outcomes.
• This position will work with multiple longitudinal birth cohorts, including the PROGRESS cohort in Mexico City and NICU-Health cohort in New York, among other U.S. and international collaborations.
• Other projects include the development of statistical approaches to analyze combinations of novel molecular markers as predictors of cardiorenal health outcomes. This includes complex mixtures and exposomic approaches.

Knowledge/Skills:

The ideal candidate will have exceptional data analytic skills using R or SAS (or equivalent statistical/bioinformatics packages) for epidemiologic and bioinformatic analyses, including tools for reproducible population-based environmental health/exposomic research. A PhD in Epidemiology/Biostatistics or closely related field and a strong track record and interest in manuscript writing are required. The candidate must also have strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to independently meet project timelines. Conference presentations and supporting grant applications are highly desirable.

Our Department is located across from Central Park in New York City in the Icahn School of Medicine and is affiliated with the Mount Sinai Health System, the largest health care provider in New York. Postdoctoral fellows constitute a central component of the School's research organization and are meaningfully integrated within the institution to facilitate scientific growth and professional development. More than 600 fellows are supported by an office of postdoctoral affairs and an office of career services. Postdoctoral fellows may audit additional coursework for training in new areas, apply to join a competitive formal teaching program, and also have opportunities for teaching in the Master of Public Health program.

The Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health, which currently includes 20 postdoctoral fellows, has an NIEHS P30 core center with a pilot grant program to which fellows are eligible to apply and a formal mentoring and development program in conjunction with an NICHD-funded T32 training grant. The department also includes the new Institute for Exposomic Research, the first institute in the world focused on exposomics, and a NIEHS-funded Child Health
Environmental Assessment Resource (CHEAR) data center that develops new methods for analyzing metabolomic and exposomic data. Finally, our CHEAR lab hub develops new targeted and untargeted assays in unique biomatrices (teeth, placenta, hair etc) that offer opportunities for methods development novel career directions. Fellows will be offered subsidized housing in Manhattan and a competitive stipend.
