Position Summary:
The Center for Advanced Public Safety at the University of Alabama is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Social Science Research Scientist. This is a renewable position with continuation dependent upon funding availability, job performance and program needs.

The Center for Advanced Public Safety (CAPS) is a research and development center in the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama and is dedicated to the use of information technology to positively impact society. CAPS develops software and hardware solutions, but also provides a research platform that is highly interdisciplinary and spans engineering, social sciences and business. CAPS is growing rapidly and is composed of faculty, professional staff, and both undergrad and graduate students. CAPS is the largest Center at the University of Alabama, including metrics such as number of personnel, number of contracts and total research expenditures.

Candidates should have entrepreneurial abilities and the motivation to leverage current opportunities to develop a sustainable funding stream in the social sciences and public safety, with a specialization in communications and human behavior research preferred. The successful candidate should show a track record of research project management experience as well as experience in building a base of extramural support capable of supporting a major research agenda for a large interdisciplinary center.

Responsibilities include directing a staff of as many as 15 professionals and 10 students involved in research and technical assistance projects totaling over $3M. Providing leadership in sustaining and growing existing projects, as well as in obtaining new sources of funding stemming from existing opportunities. Mentoring students and providing opportunities for educational growth and internship training.

Minimum Qualifications include a Ph.D. in a social sciences area with a publication and funding record sufficient for an appointment as a Full Professor in his/her respective area.
