We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position with our Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division (CSE).
In this role under the guidance of a supervisor you will:
Develop routes for understanding grain growth of lithium battery cathode and electrolyte materials during calcination by synchrotron x-ray diffraction and imaging methods.
Advance the state of knowledge of PbSO4 growth with variable saturation index and pH using transmission x-ray microscopy.
Prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals and make oral presentations with industry partners and at national and international meetings, program reviews, and technical society meetings based on research performed in program; contribute to progress reports and research proposals.
Interact with colleagues within the Division, other Argonne Divisions, and in academia and research communities outside of Argonne National Laboratory.
Develop and maintain laboratory equipment and facilities.
We expect you to have:
Knowledge of electrochemistry, energy storage, and synthesis techniques; experimental techniques in electrochemistry and physical chemistry; and mathematical techniques and computer programming for data analysis.
Knowledge of high-resolution synchrotron-based x-ray techniques (such as x-ray diffraction and imaging techniques like tomography) for in situ studies of crystallization at high temperature and in solution.
Background in working interactively and productively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Highly skilled in oral and written communication.
Proven record of publication and external recognition in these areas.
Knowledge of chemical instrumentation and data analysis.
Experience in devising, performing, and evaluating innovative research on crystal growth.
Familiarity with energy storage materials, the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and technical communications.
Ability to work independently on a day-to-day basis and as a member of a multidisciplinary research group.
This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in electrochemistry, physical chemistry, or materials science at the Ph.D. degree level with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience.
