Job Description

We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position with our Energy and Global Security Directorate.

The research project aims to develop high-throughput screening methods for high-entropy alloys in additively manufactured components using density functional theory based first-principles techniques. In particular, the role of composition in developing corrosion resistant alloys for extreme environments will be explored. A machine learning based approach will coupled to the high-performance computing capabilities at Argonne National Lab and validation data from experimental efforts by academic and industry partners.

We expect you to have:

  • A recent PhD in physics/materials science/chemistry/chemical engineering or related field with 0-3 years of experience.
  • Deep understanding and facility in application of modern techniques of density functional theory for analysis of different phases of alloys, precipitates, and interfaces is important.
  • Analytical skills in thermodynamic integrations, statistical mechanics, nucleation and growth, phase transformation, and computational expertise is required.
  • Programming skills, expertise in developing workflows using python, CAPLHAD, precipitate and mobility databases, and machine learning in materials science are a plus.
  • Strong writing skill is required.
