The Tufts University School of Medicine's Department of Public Health and Community Medicine invites applications for a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek a collegial individual with formal training and experience in Clinical/Healthcare Informatics, and with excellent communications skills, teaching experience, scholarship, and a penchant to work in a multidisciplinary university environment. The successful candidate is expected to enhance current teaching and mentoring activities for the 100% online Health Informatics & Analytics (HIA) Program, which includes a certificate and a Master of Science. The faculty member will also develop an independent research program and participate in community and professional service appropriate to a university faculty member.

The Department of Public Health and Community Medicine houses the Public Health Programs that confer the Master of Public Health (MPH), the Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH), Master of Science in Health Communication, and Master of Science in Pain Research, Education and Policy. The Programs seek to create an educational and workplace environment that fosters active learning, discussion and debate, critical thinking, inclusion and the capacity to work in a multidisciplinary practice environment. Small class size and high accessibility of faculty to students are hallmarks of our Programs. The Department has 31 full-time faculty comprised of public health practitioners, physicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, nurses, dentists, nutritionists, health administrators, lawyers, writers, and environmental and civil engineers. Areas of research concentration include environmental and occupational health, obesity and chronic disease, health policy and health care delivery, health communication, health inequality and social determinants of health, nutrition and infectious disease, and global health.

Candidates with practical expertise and a track record of research in electronic health records (EHR), health information technology standards and systems interoperability, clinical decision-support systems, patient care systems, or similar focal areas are particularly encouraged to apply. Knowledge of and work experience with methods in classic epidemiology/biostatistics and data science (machine learning, data mining) is a plus. Combinations of areas of expertise are welcome and we encourage interdisciplinary approaches. Candidates with a commitment to research that benefits communities, who are willing to work collaboratively and provide leadership to build our department capacity in health equity research and scholarship, and who show a genuine appreciation for the importance of teaching and mentoring students are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must have a PhD or MD/MS degree in medical informatics, health informatics, health information management, or a related field. Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor must have a proven track record of scholarship, extramural research funding, and graduate student advising and teaching at the master’s level. Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate the potential to become independent investigators and teachers.
