Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
Job DescriptionThe Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology along with the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. This position, based in Dr. Mingjiang Xu's laboratory, will focus on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of hematopoietic malignancies. The TET2 gene is mutated and/or deleted with high frequencies in multiple forms of myeloid malignancies including MDS, MDS/MPN, and AML. The Postdoctoral Associate will evaluate the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which TET2 mutations lead to myeloid malignancies using various TET2-deficient (constitutive and conditional) and TET2 transgenic (WT, catalytic inactive and truncated TET2) mouse models. Specifically, the Postdoctoral Associate will identify TET2-interacting proteins and TET2-target genes (ChIP-Seq) using hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells of various TET2 transgenic (epitope tagged transgene) mice, as well as dissect TET2-deletion induced misregulation of 5mC/5hmC/5fC/5caC in hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells.
The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Ph.D. in a life science discipline such as Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biochemistry or a closely related field of study; or possess an M.D. Should have a strong background in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, or similar field; preferably with experience working with hematopoiesis and mouse models of cancer. Also prefer experience in stem cell biology or familiarity with bioinformatic tools, particularly next-generation sequencing data analysis. Must be goal-oriented, proactive, and hardworking with excellent organizational skills. Possess a passion about making a difference in cancer research. Excellent computer skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in the English language.
