Job Description

Summary

Baylor College of Medicine's Pathology Team is seeking an Accessioning Clerk.

The work hours will be Monday - Friday, 5:30pm - 9:00pm.

Job Duties

  • Receives, sorts, and accessions all specimens entering the laboratory into the LIS.
  • Time stamps patient requisitions upon receipt and sort specimens.
  • Enters patient demographics, physician and clinical information, clinical history, specimen information, and test orders into the LIS.
  • Follows established safety and laboratory procedures at all times and does not deviate in an attempt to save time.
  • Functions with efficiency and clear communication.
  • Clearly communicates verbally and in writing to management and coworkers when issues arise or when communicating information pertaining to shift handoff.
  • May train for gross dissection with qualifying credentials after successful completion of competency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate, Bachelor, or accrued credits in the amount of 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 24 hours equally divided between biology and chemistry.
  • Experience in related field.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to troubleshoot.
  • Ability to identify issues and troubleshoot by route cause analysis and create a plan of correction.
  • Ability to multitask without compromising quality or efficiency.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills in order to stay on task and meet deadlines.
