Post-Doctoral Position in Skin Immunology

Employer:  Columbia University Medical Center
Job Number:  7046348
Date Posted:  12/20/2016
Application Deadline: Open Until Filled

Job Description

The Basic Science Research Group of the Department of Dermatology at Columbia University is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral scientist with an interest in skin immunology to join the research efforts of Dr. Annemieke de Jong. Her laboratory investigates the role of lipids as T cell antigens in human epithelial immunity. Dendritic cells and Langerhans cells residing in the epithelia present both mammalian and microbial lipids to T cells through CD1 antigen presenting molecules. We are interested in the functions of lipid-specific T cells in normal skin homeostasis and their involvement in inflammatory skin diseases, and aim to gain insight in how changes in the skin lipidome and microbial communities affect the activation of these T cells.

Further, the candidate will have the opportunity to work as part of a larger multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Angela Christiano, on the identification of autoantigens for T cells in the autoimmune skin disease Alopecia Areata. This is a collaborative effort in which we apply multiple approaches, including screening for T cell epitopes using peptide libraries, and identification of pathogenic T cell receptors using single cell TCR sequencing.

Qualifications

Prospective applicants should have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in Immunology or a related field, and should possess strong laboratory, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. Priority will be given to applicants with knowledge of lipid biochemistry.

The Department of Dermatology at Columbia University is an exciting multidisciplinary workplace with excellent resources. We are seeking creative and highly motivated individuals interested in working in a dynamic research environment, where they will have the opportunity to gain diverse pre-clinical and clinical research experience, and receive excellent mentoring.
