Postdoctoral Appointee - Computational Shock Physics

Job Description

: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to conduct research related to shock physics analysis and code development. Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to: + Support the ongoing research and development of the SNL computational shock physics CTH + Support efforts related to: equation of state, reactive flow models, strength mechanics, and failure mechanisms

Required:
+ PhD in a relevant discipline conferred within 5 years prior to employment + Experience with continuum mechanics, shock physics theory, and strength of materials + Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance

Desired:
+ Experience using CTH or other shock physics/explicit dynamics codes to solve engineering problems + Knowledge and experience with software engineering + Experience in the development of computational mechanics/physics codes + Proficiency in Fortran or other programming language + Understanding of the physics of explosives + Knowledge of equation of state models

Department Description:

Department 1555, Computational Shock Physics, has expertise in the computational simulation of extreme mechanical events such as shock, blast and impact. The Department conducts research and development in the area of computational shock physics, incorporating the results into the CTH shock physics code, which is owned by the Department. In addition, the shock physics and solid mechanics analysts in the Department conduct research and development and apply computational simulation to problems involving shocks for a wide range of projects aligned with Sandia's broad national security mission in cooperation with the other departments in the Engineering Sciences Center.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance. Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance.
