Job Description

: The Computational Materials and Data Science Department, is seeking qualified Postdoctoral Appointee candidates to create, develop, and apply computational models in order to understand material behavior and their impact on systems performance. + Job responsibilities include developing and applying meso-scale microstructural evolution and continuum response for predicting engineering performance of these materials. + Research emphases include simulating polycrystalline microstructures, developing nonlinear mechanics theory, and applying materials knowledge in meso-to-continuum framework. + Modeling and simulation efforts within this department focus on collaborative projects with other organizations such as engineering mechanics, computational sciences, applied engineering components departments, and external agencies like funding agencies, academia and industry. These opportunities provide interaction with a broad network of scientists and represent state-of-the-art computational materials science.

Required:
+ Ph.D. in Materials Science or related science and engineering fields with demonstrated experience in computational materials science + Experience with finite-element modeling of structural metals + Experience with parallel, large-scale computing + Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q-level security clearance

Desired:
+ Ability to work in a team environment. + Strong written and oral communication skills. + Experience in modeling the micron-scale mechanical deformation of BCC and FCC metals. + Background in plasticity and dislocation theory + Broad experience with multi-scale materials modeling + Experience in collaborating with experimentalists to implement validation experiments

Department Description:

The Computational Materials and Data Science Department provides advanced computational analysis that enables materials-based insight and solutions. Capabilities include model development for nanoscalar and mesoscalar materials evolution, interfacial dynamics, defect initiation and propagation, multivariate analysis, and signal processing. We conduct experiments in micromechanics and volumetric flaw distribution to validate our computational work. Our multidisciplinary background and materials science expertise enable mechanistic and physical understanding related to aging and wear of materials such as metals, semiconductors, biomaterials, and polymers in support of DOE nuclear and non-nuclear missions.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance. Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
